More about the Soup Kitchen in Saldus:
In 2009 CEMEX Opportunity Fund in cooperation with Saldus Roman Catholic, Martin Luther and Saldus Saint John congregations, Hjelp Latvia and Latarb from Norway, as well as multiple private donors developed a Soup Kitchen in Saldus – to support those who are in need.
Sadly the number of economically active group of unemployed people, who use the services of Soup Kitchen is growing. One person receives 750 grams of soup and bread. Value of such portion – 0,75 LVL.
The Soup Kitchen prepares on daily basis 170 portions (currently the capacity of the equipment). Those who do not have option to get a portion of soup, receive dry rations – bread, wheat, etc.
During winter months the number of people in need grows and the total number of different recipients reaches 349 people (certain rotation takes place, as not everybody can receive a warm portion every day). During summer months the number of families with children grows, therefore, higher number of children are observed, which is explained by School holidays as during summer these children don’t receive lunch for free at School.
There is also need for support to those people who cannot come to the distribution due to illness or age. Soup must be delivered to their homes.
In order to ensure higher support to the community around us, there is a need for vehicle that could be used both for transporting the soup, as well as product deliveries. The amount of money to gather – 2300 LVL or 3273 EUR.
